February 21, 2017 - THE CHILDREN’S EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY FOUNDATION OF CONNECTICUT, INC. EXPANDS SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES TO EAST HARTFORD FAMILIES
The Board of Directors of the Children’s Educational Opportunity Foundation, Inc. (CEO) has just announced that in addition to funding students who reside in Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport, it will begin funding residents of East Hartford effective September 2017. This expansion was made possible by an anonymous donor who provided the seed money for the East Hartford expansion. CEO is now working to obtain additional funds to sustain and grow this new opportunity for East Hartford residents
Since 1995, (CEO) has been providing low-income families equal access to quality education. CEO focuses on families at or within 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. Over 8,400 scholarships for students in grades K-8, totaling over $17 million dollars has been awarded. This year, CEO offered 402 scholarships investing over $810,000 in CEO Scholars.
CEO’s commitment to engaging families as partners in education has stayed the same since its’ inception. The program encourages families by awarding the student the first half of the tuition up to $2100 each year. It is up to the families to provide the balance of the tuition as well as find, apply and get accepted to any accredited private school in Connecticut which they have chosen. Family commitment and involvement in the children’s education further supports the student on the road to success. CEO welcomes students as early as kindergarten up to fifth grade, and supports qualified students through their eighth-grade year. CEO Scholars’ school grades across subjects and grade levels are well above average, overall in the mid-to-high 80s, which is roughly equivalent to a letter grade of B or B+. Retention of CEO Scholars from the 2015-16 Academic Year was 85%.
